How to Install a Bike Water Bottle Holder

Are you annoyed that your bike has no bottle mount? Bottle mount is an important bike accessory. If a bike does not have this accessory, many people even don’t buy that model of the bike. It may sound absurd. But, it is true.
It is also extremely frustrating for bike designers that after spending years in bike frame designing if it turns out that the model is not selling well due to only a lack of accessory.

One argument of bike designers not to complete the bike frame design with a water bottle holder is that the bikers can easily carry a bike water bottle in their backpacks. But, riding a bike without a backpack is far more convenient as you do not carry any extra weight.

I will also not recommend anyone to buy a bike that has no bottle mount in it. It is like riding an incomplete bike

How to Fit a Bottle Cage With a Bike That Has No Bottle Mount

Don’t get frustrated if your bike has no bottle mounts in its frame. The assuring news is there are solutions if the bike lacks a bottle mount in its frame.
  1. You can attach below types of water bottle to your bike frame
  2. Kids bottle cage or side loading bottle cage
  3. 500 ml water bottle or even 350 ml water bottle will also work

Now attach any of these bottles with your brake frame with a universal bottle cage clamp. A mastic tape will also keep the cage in place during rough riding and will not damage the bike’s paintwork. Basically, what you need to do to attach a bottle with your cycle frame is zip tie it anywhere in the bike frame.

Suggested locations on the bike’s frame where you can fix the water bottle holder
  • Underneath of top tube
  • Under the saddle nose
  • On down tube
However, if you failed to attach the water bottle holder to any of these places, all is not lost. You have still one option left. It is a collapsible mini flask that holds up to 500ml of water. You can easily stuff it in your pocket and ride the bike.

Hose Clamps

You can attach a water bottle cage with the bike frame using a hose clamp. You may not have seen a hose clamp. Hose clamps are used to attach a car’s radiator hose to the radiator.

Use a Screw Less Bottle Cage

There are a few models of bottle cages available that attach them with the cycle frame do not require making any holes on the frame or using a screw. Since there is no hole or screw attachment, fixing these bottle cages will not cause the removal of the frame's paint job.
The important thing is while riding a bike, you need to stay hydrated. The lack of water in your body will make you tired quickly and that may shorten your journey.
